There are varieties of car haulers that are commonly seen on the road. Most people do not even know what kind of hauler will be transporting their vehicle. It is beneficial to know what kind of auto haulers are out there, and the way in which they are used to move cars, bikes, SUV’s, and so on.
In general, vehicle transport trailers consist of two types, namely open transport trailer and enclosed transport trailer. You should also know that there are two kinds of trucks that transport cars – hotshots, and trailers. These trucks have been specifically designed to move cars.
A hotshot looks like an ordinary pick-up, but the difference is that they can transport up to three cars at once. The first big plus of hotshots is that you can ship instantly – you do not need to wait for the empty slots to be filled. However, this means all costs of operation will be shouldered by the single vehicle being shipped, so they have pricier rate.
A lot of people choose hotshots because they are better at navigating residential streets. If you require door-to-door delivery, then a hotshot is the best choice. If you don’t use a hotshot, then you will be using a tractor trailer – the giants that carry between 3 and 12 cars.
The first benefit of tractor trailers is cost – more cars means more people paying, which means you each pay less You can only save money if the trailer is packed to capacity. Therein lies the big problem – you may wait weeks for the trailer to fill up with cars going in the same direction.
Bear in mind that tractor trailers are too large to use narrow neighborhood streets. These machines are built to go the distance – they are heavy and relatively slow. You should be able to collect your car at a driver terminal.
Two types of trailer are available – single or multiple-vehicle. You cannot choose for yourself – the truck determines what gets used. In most cases, hotshots use single and semi-trailer trucks have multiple.
Every now and then a semi will transport a single car if it has unusual measurements. In this case, the vehicle has to be loaded on a flatbed together with other cargo the driver picks up. Even though this is an expensive way of doing things, it may be the only way.
A big mystery in the car shipping world is deck selection. Cars on the upper deck are exposed to the elements, and they drip on the cars on the bottom. Neither position is better off.
